Our ENL cohort

Over a period of nine months, these up-and-coming nurse leaders will receive invaluable opportunities to develop their leadership skills and confidence, including mentoring, coaching, professional development and more. Each Emerging Nurse Leader has a unique journey and background into and through the nursing profession.

The ENL program has acted as a catalyst for me to become more involved in nursing leadership and professional development. This program has given me the opportunity to strengthen my leadership confidence, better manage conflict within the workplace and connect with many inspirational nurse leaders. I am so grateful that I applied for and participated in the ENL program and would strongly recommend it to all early career nurses seeking both professional and personal growth.

This program has opened my eyes to a world of nursing I didn't know I existed. I have been exposed to many amazing opportunities and had the chance to network with my ENL peers and the nursing profession from all over Australia. I have felt embraced into this professional family and have found my passion and inspiration through completing this program. I have taken chances and stepped outside my comfort zone, the ACN and the ACN tribe are wonderfully supportive. I would encourage anyone thinking about the ENL program to jump in and seize the chance to be a part of this awesome and supportive community. If you want to develop your leadership skills and qualities, the ENL program is a great environment to do so. I am so excited to see what adventure the ENL 2024 journey holds.

The ENL program offers a flexible structure that's adaptable to the individual and their professional goals. It has linked me up with many like-minded individuals who are interested in positive industry change, and has highlighted the vast industry that nursing is. I’ve made new friends, learnt a lot about myself and the practitioner I aspire to be, and have been linked up with industry experts in my fields of interest. For anyone considering the ENL program, go for it! You'll learn heaps, make some new friends and be inspired for your future. You only ever regret the things you don’t do.

The ENL program is self-paced which means I have been able to fit activities in around my work/life schedule. The activities suggested helped me grow professionally by giving me that prompt to do something completely outside of my comfort zone safely. Through the ENL program, I was paired up with a mentor who was extremely knowledgeable and supportive in whatever activity I wanted to achieve. Not only did they help with specific ENL activities but they were also a fantastic external sounding board for other nursing-related questions/queries/concerns as well. My advice to someone considering applying to the ENL program is to be ready to grow outside of your comfort zone and be absolutely supported in doing so if accepted. The program has its value in, you get out what you put in.

In the context of mental health nursing, participating in an Emerging Nurse Leader (ENL) program can have several benefits. ENLP exposed me to different webinars, discussions, and opportunities which enhanced my leadership and management skills, including my clinical expertise. I expanded my networks and able to collaborate with other nurses/ENLs to conduct research, policy review, and development of clinical guidelines. I value the mentorship experience and opportunities given by Stefanie Dosen and the engagement and camaraderie shared and experienced by ENLs. My advice to future ENLs: The opportunities that ENLP provides are overwhelming. Choose based on your expertise, practice, and interest. Do not overindulge and manage your time effectively amidst personal and professional demands. Have an ENL buddy in your local area to maximise opportunities and satisfy requirements easily (buddies help each other)..

Coming into this program as a 3rd year Bachelor of Nursing student has been extremely rewarding. The Stage 1 program outline has been very beneficial in complementing my studies, and also preparing me for the Graduate application process. As challenging as it has been to complete this during my final year of studies, I would highly recommend this to 3rd year students as it has equipped me with knowledge and skills that just aren't available from Universities.
