Your leadership matters - Lead from where you are

The Lead from Where You Are – Leadership Series is an innovative initiative aimed at increasing visibility and creating opportunities for nurses to lead within their professional settings.

It acknowledges the practical leadership skills that every nurse possesses and enables them to reach their full potential by providing structure, skill development, and the confidence needed to broaden their impact.

Aligned with the Australian College of Nursing’s (ACN) mission of Advancing Nursing, Shaping Health, the program aims to create equitable leadership pathways that reflect the full diversity of nursing practice.

Lead From Where You Are – Leadership Program for Mental Health Nurses

Join us for this intensive ‘live and online’ program, which includes access to The Leader’s Mindset Series 1 Foundation Course Module.

Can’t make the live sessions?
Don’t stress, all our sessions are recorded and accessible for the entire duration of the program. This gives you the option to join in and connect in real time or catch up later. As a bonus, you can re-watch sessions whenever you need giving you the flexibility to fit into your schedule.

CPD Hours
Participants will earn 4 CPD hours upon completion of the online course, plus an additional 7.5 CPD hours for attending the live webinars.

Webinar 1: Awaken the leader within

 Explore the foundations of effective leadership in mental health nursing, including core leadership principles, professional influence and the role of nurses in shaping quality care and positive workplace cultures.

Webinar 2: Leading under pressure - Thriving in complex mental health care environments

Tuesday, 3 November 2026 (2pm-3:30pm AEDT)
 Build your leadership capability by enhancing self-awareness, resilience and emotional intelligence to thrive in today’s mental health workforce.

Webinar 3: Communicating with influence: Building trust and connection

Wednesday, 10 November 2026 (2pm-3:30pm AEDT)
 Develop the skills to lead and support teams through effective communication, clinical supervision, mentoring and culturally responsive leadership.

Webinar 4: Leading through change - Creating confidence in times of transition

Tuesday, 17 November 2026 (2pm-3:30pm AEDT)
 Develop the skills to lead meaningful change through quality improvement/ innovation, data-informed decision making and consumer centred service design.

Webinar 5: Lead from where you are

Tuesday, 24 November 2026 (2pm-3:30pm AEDT)
 Explore future leadership opportunities, career pathways, and strategies to sustain your impact and influence throughout your mental health nursing career.

Eligibility criteria

All applicants seeking to participate in this program are required to meet the following selection criteria:

Professional registration

Must be registered as a Registered Nurse and/or Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
Must be currently working in Mental Health

Commitment to growth

Demonstrates motivation to learn, reflect, and develop leadership skills.

Program engagement

Capable of completing all program work within the designated six-week period.

 Explore how to shape positive team cultures. Learn to lead teams that are safe, connected and focussed on high-quality care.

Program fees

The program is valued at $900. At this time, ACN is extending the offer to our members:

  • ACN members: $750
  • Non-members: $900
